Culture – From Our Classroom to the World!

As part of our Social Studies class, we have started to examine the idea of “culture” this past week.  We have a great deal of diversity in the our room, with many different heritages represented. Still, at first, many students thought that they, themselves were not a part of a culture. However, when we learned that “culture” has to do with the way of life of a group of people, they were able to see that they too had a unique cultural identity with many similiarities and differences with others in our classroom. Next, our class did a fantastic job coming up with many things that make up our culture. Here is a web showing most of their ideas.

Each student then created a web for their own special circumstance. We will be continuing to focus on culture, particularly in the countries of India, Ukraine, Tunisia and Peru over the next month or so. Please be sure to let us know if you have any special insights into the cultures of these amazing countries!
